Mobile Smiles Ottawa
We guard your smile!

Just a reminder that it is that time of year again!!

Dig out that mouthguard and give it a thorough inspection.  Make sure your smile is protected!!

The Healthy Mouthguard Check List:

  • Does your mouthguard pinch or feel too tight?
  • Does your mouthguard fall down when you open your mouth to speak or breathe?
  • Does your mouthguard have any spots where your teeth have worn through?
  • Do the edges of your mouthguard feel rough or do they poke your gums?

If you have answered YES to any of these questions, it is time to replace your mouthguard!!

You can expect to replace a child’s mouthguard each year, if not sooner, due to:
  • facial development
  • jaw bone growth
  • tooth eruption/shedding

Inspect the thickness of the material and make sure it is uniform and solid – this will allow for proper shock absorption.  If there are places where it is worn through – replace immediately as it will not provide adequate protection.

There should not be any places where the edges are frayed or rough – rough, frayed edges indicate wear, they attract bacteria and they can rub or puncture the oral tissues.
